SSET gets ‘Most Preferred Engineering College’ status

The Hindu dated August 22, 2007 had come out with a report stating the trends noticed during the admission to the engineering colleges in Kerala in the academic year just started. Among the private self-financing engineering colleges in Kerala, the most preferred choice of engineering aspirants turned out to be SCMS School of Engineering and Technology (SSET).

Staff achievements

Smt.Sindhu H., Lecturer in Civil Engineering has won the Er.C.S.P Iyer Endowment Award constituted by Institution of Engineers (India) ,Trivandrum Chapter for securing first Rank in M.Tech. Civil (Hydraulics Engg.)Examination of University of Kerala, April 2007.

Student achievements

Jithin Krishnan (S1 S2 EC) and Hemanth Sivan (S1 S2 AU) participated in the all Kerala inter- collegiate quiz competiton organized jointly by National Service Scheme and State Bank of Travancore at M.A College of Engineering ,Kothamangalam on October 31.

Magazine release

Torque – The association of automobile engineering students – released their in-house magazine , ‘Full Throttle’ at a colourful event organized on November 2. Smt.Mini Thomas, Sub Editor of FastTrack, a leading Malayalam automobile magazine from the house of Malayala Manorama, was the Chief Guest.

Prof.E.D Mukundan, HOD, delivered the presidential address and Sijo George, Magazine Editor, proposed the vote of thanks, Shri.Manoj Kumar.B. Lecturer, Automobile Engineering, offered the felicitations.

Placement news

Placement activities of 2008 and 2007 batch students have revived up after the university examinations. A host of national and multi national corporate houses have conducted campus recruitment drives at SSET,during October- November.

Robert Bosch has selected Mechanical students of 2007 batch. Infosys Technologies conducted a placement drive at SSET for the second time this year. Kalki Communications has shortlisted 3 students of 2008 batch EC and EE branches. Shantisoft Technologies and KTS Infotech have scheduled their visit next month. Infosys Technologies is organizing a campus connect programme at SSET during December.

Prof.R Sahadevan, Professor-in-charge of placement attended ‘Links 07’, the all Kerala placement co-ordinators’ meet on November 20.The programme was organized by UST Global, a leading IT conglomerate based at Technopark, Trivandrum.

Software conglomerates Accenture and Sapient Technologies conducted recruitment drives at SSET during September and October. Civil Graduates of 2007 Batch were selected by Shobha Developers, Bangalore. The Indian Army and Indian Navy conducted a selection programme at SSET under their University Entry Scheme. The Indian Air Force is expected to conduct a similar exercise soon. Wrench Solutions has selected 3 students of Mechanical 2007 branch. 44 students have received Bhavishya Jyothi scholarship, instituted by NIIT.

Personality Development Programmes

Ramanathan’s Effective Public Speaking Institute, Chennai conducted PDP programme for all branches of 3rd year students. The programme was of three days duration for each batch and started on September 4.
