Nisha bags First Rank
Nisha Peter of MCA first Batch from SSET has bagged the University First Rank in the MCA final examination conducted by MG University in October 2009.
Placement activities of 2010 batch of B.Tech. students started off with Infosys Technologies organizing a recruitment drive on January 8 at SSET campus. 22 students drawn from various branches were selected for placement.
HCL Infosystems, Spectrum Softech Solutions, Poornam Info Vision and Galfar Engineering and Contracting SAOG, Oman have scheduled their recruitment programme to be completed before the end of February.
Infosys campus connect programme
Shri. Niju P. Joseph, Assistant Professor(MCA) and Smt. Viji Gopal, Lecturer (CSE), attended the faculty empowerment programme organised by Infosys as part of their campus connect programme, held at Amrita Vidyapeedham, Vallikkavu, Kollam between January 18 and 22.
- Shri.P. Venu, Associate Professor (ME), presented a paper ‘Global remote quality function deployment object’ at the International Conference on Advances in Industrial Engineering, held at Anna University, Chennai from January.6 and 8. The paper was guided and co-authored by Prof M.Madhavan, Director, SSET.
- Smt. K. Deepa, Assistant Professor-MCA, presented a paper ‘Software refactoring’ at the seminar on ‘Recent advances in computing’ held at U.C. College, Aluva from January 19 to 21.
- Shri Anand Raj Hariharan, Assistant Professor (ME) presented a paper, ‘Thermal mixing analysis of three lobed clover nozzle’ at the International Conference on Materials, Mechanics and Management, held at College of Engineering, Thiruvanathapuram from January 14 to16.
- Smt. Anita G.. Pillai, Associate Professor CE) and Shri B. Manoj Kumar, Assistant. Professor (AU) have obtained MXLA certification in pursuit of excellence in engineering. education through innovations as a part of Mission 10X Programme of Wipro Technologies.
- Shri B. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor (AU) has been included as an expert member on the panel of Arbitrators by Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Ernakulam.
- Shri.M. Dhileep, Assistant. Professor (CE) presented three papers at the International Conference on Materials, Mechanics and Management, held at College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, from January 14 to16. They are: (1) Effect of rigid content on mid frequency region of response spectrum, (2) Effect of global and local variations of strength of concrete in dynamic response of machine foundations, and (3) Assessment of seismic pounding hazard for Phuentsholing City.
Sanjay Raj (S6CS) has secured third place in the popular music programme Gandharva Sangeetham of Kairali TV.
NSS technical cell
An anti narcotics awareness programme was organised for S1 and S2 students on January 21. The function was conducted in collaboration with the evening news paper flash from Kerala Kaumudi Group. Shri. K.Mohanan , Deputy. Commissioner and Shri. Anil Kumar, C.I, both of them from the Excise Department, Government of Kerala, Shri. Mahesh, Bureau Chief, Kerala Kaumudi and Dr. Rajith Kumar, Educational Counselor, NCERT, were the resource persons.
National Service Scheme Technical Cell
Shri K.K. Gopalakrishnan, Workshop Superintendent and NSS Programme Officer, attended a five-day training and orientation programme at Rajagiri School of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, during November 3-7. The programme focused on topics like psycho-social problems of teenagers, palliative care, trauma care and first aid, learning disorders and the like.
Shri Ajit Joseph, Lecturer- EC, attended a two-week ISTE-sponsored short term technical programme on digital image processing at Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara between November 17 and 29.
Smt.Viji Gopal, Lecturer-CSE, presented a paper titled ‘An open source enhancer interface for web service search engine,’ at the National Conference on Free Software held during November 15 and 16 at CUSAT, Cochin.
Smt.Susmi Jacob, Lecturer-CSE, also attended the conference.
Instructional skills workshop
The newly recruited faculty members of SSET were given an orientation programme at the campus by Prof. M.Madhavan, Principal, during the period from October 28 to November 1.. This was followed by an instructional skill workshop intended to sharpen the teaching skills and interpersonal skills. The topics covered were: negotiation skills, motivation, student psychology and group dynamics.
Prof. M. Madhavan co-ordinated the programmes. He was assisted by Shri. K.C. Mathew, Assistant Professor (ME) and Smt. Begi Margaret, Lecturer- Communicative English.
Post graduate courses
The Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, has accorded sanction to SSET for conducting M.Tech programme in Computer Aided Structural Engineering from the academic year 2008-09.
The college library has started functioning in the new administrative block. The new library occupies a larger floor area, providing better
facilities for staff and students.
Al-Naboodah Contracting Company LLC, Dubai conducted on-line test for 2009 Batch Civil Engineering students.
Wrench Solutions, Nest Group, Anglo Eastern Ship Management and Adithya Sai Technologies will be visiting the campus to conduct recruitment programme for 2009 batch students.
Soft skills training programme for second year students, as part of Campus Connect Programme of Infosys, has been scheduled between December 2 and 5.
The aptitude development programme, foundation & soft skill programme and Linux programme for third year students are scheduled to be held between December 2 and 17.
Frames, the Association of Civil Engineering students organized a technical talk, ‘Recent Developments in Civil Engineering’ by Dr. N.Suresh, Professor in Civil Engineering, National Institute of Engineering, Mysore on August 6. The programme was sponsored by India Cements,Chennai.
Three final year students of Civil Engineering, Subin Prasad, Priya Varghese and Sherin Mary Antony bagged the first prize in a competition on Design of Eco-friendly Office. The programme was organized by Water Science and Energy Management Cell, M.A. College of Engineering, Kothamangalam in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The winning design will be used as master plan to construct an office building for UNEP’s Special Duties Officer at Perumbavoor. The programme was conducted on August 8. The competition was open to final year Civil Engineering and Architecture students from all colleges in Kerala.
NSS Technical Cell
Two NSS volunteers of SSET, Ajay Jose and Balanand of second year B.Tech, participated in the Legal Awareness Programme organized by Aluva Taluk Legal Literacy Cell at Aluva Municipal Conference Hall on August 22.
Academic Session Inauguration
Dr. G.P.C Nayar, Chairman, SCMS Group inaugurated the academic session of eighth batch of B.Tech. students on August 18 at a colorful event held in the campus. In his inaugural address, Dr. Nayar enlightened the freshers on how to excel as a student of a professional course and also the contribution of SCMS Group in promoting the principles of value-based education in the state.
Shri. A.K. Nair, Vice Chairman, in his presidential address, highlighted the ideals and principles for which the SCMS Group lays high emphasis and the importance of maintaining quality in education in a globalized scenario.
Earlier Prof. M. Madhavan, Principal, SSET welcomed the gathering. Shri. P.P. Premchandran, Asst. Professor (ME) proposed the vote of thanks.
Later an induction programme for the fresh students was conducted by Prof. M. Madhavan, Principal and Prof. R. Sahadevan, Professor-in-Charge, Placement Cell.
SSETians have put up a spectacular show once again in the results of B.Tech, Degree Examinations of M.G. University conducted during May/ June 2008.

Batch 4 bids adieu
The fourth batch of Engineering Graduates is all set to leave the portals of SSET. There are around 320 students in this batch and this includes the first batch of Automobile Engineering students of the institution. The University Examinations are scheduled to start around third week of May, and by mid June, this final year students are expected to join the engineering fraternity.
College Union 2008-2009
The activities of the College Union (2008-2009) were inaugurated at a function held at the campus on April 5. Prof.M.Madhavan, Principal SSET, lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration. In his inaugural address, Prof. Madhavan reminded the students to strike a healthy balance between academic and co-curricular activities; Shri. P.P. Premachandran, Asst. Professor (ME) offered felicitations, and Justin Anto, the Union Secretary welcomed the gathering, Reynolds Premji, the union Chairman gave the presidential address, and Deepak Hari, Secretary, Arts Club proposed the vote of thanks.

February 16, 2008 is going to be a Red Letter Day in the history of SSET. RINA, the lead assessors for ISO certifications, completed their external audit on the organization and methods followed at SSET. The external auditors have conveyed a satisfactory feed back and the final certificate is expected to be handed over in a month’s time.
The placement cell had a hectic schedule during the month of April. A host of IT and non-IT based companies organized recruitment programmes at the campus. Civil Engineering students of 2008 batch were selected by companies like Galfar Engineering – Oman, Nael – UAE, Essa – UAE, Crest Buildtech, Kochi. Mechanical and Electrical students were absorbed by Galfar Engineering, Oman, Anglo Eastern Ship Management and Barber Shipping. IT based companies like Reliance Communications, SunTech Business Solutions and Poornam Infovision selected students mainly from Computer Science Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Around 80-85 percent of the eligible students of 2008 have been placed by now.
Students Association Activities
The Electronics and Communication Engineering students association organized a lecture on VIOP and Networking on April 19, in collaboration with B-Soft, a leading software company.
Shri. P.P. Lalu, Asst. Professor (ME), presented a paper entitled ‘Parallel Computing Issues in the Development of Pipe Network Simulation Code’, at the national conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering held on March 28 and 29 at VJCET, Vazhakkulam.
National Service Scheme (Technical)
The NSS Technical Cell of SSET conducted a blood donation camp on March 12. This time there were 97 donors from SSET, which included 2 teaching staff members too. The camp was organized in collaboration with IMA Blood Bank and Research Centre Thrissur. Earlier Dr. Babu, of IMA, conducted an awareness programme on blood donation at SSET campus, for NSS volunteers.
Kerala state level valedictory function of NSS (Technical) was held on February 23 at Government Engineering College, Thrissur. four student volunteers and the Programme Officer from SSET attended the function.
Association of Electrical Engineering Students (Vajra)
The activities of Vajra, association of Electrical & Electronics Engineering students, were innagurated at a colourful function held on March 6, by Shri.V.R.Sudhi, Dy Chief Engineer, Kerala State Electricity Board.
Prof. M. Madhavan, Principal, SSET, was the resource person for a Short Term Technical Programme on Quality Management, held at Government Engineering College, Thrissur during March 6 – 19.
Shri. P.P. Lalu, Asst. Professor (ME) presented a paper entitled ‘Optional design of pressurized pipe networks, a non-linear programming approach’ at Second National Conference on ‘Advances in civil engineering’, held at T.K.M. College of Engineering, Kollam, during February 21-23.
Shri. Mahesh. R, Asst. Professor (ME) attended a two-day workshop on ‘Lasers in material processing’, held at N.I.T Tiruchirappalli during March 6-7.
Smt.Lakshmi Sudhakaran of final year Civil bagged a Merit certificate and cash prize of Rs 2000 instituted by Ultratech Cement. The award was given away by Shri.Joseph, Regional Manager at a function held at the campus, on March 24.
The ISO certification programme is progressing at full steam towards the final target. The external lead auditors RINA, is slated to visit the campus by mid April for the final audit. The second internal audit by the consultants was conducted on March 3 & 4, and a preparatory external audit was conducted by RINA on March 6. They will be conducting a scrutiny of records on March 27.
The Placement Cell is working in full swing. Conglomerates like HCL, Velozeta and Pro-X have conducted campus recruitment at SSET, during last month and together they have selected around 15 students of 2008 Batch, from all disciplines.
IT based companies like Subex, NAEL, and Civil Engineering and contracting firm, EASA Engineering from UAE are expected to visit SSET for conducting recruitment programme.
IETE students chapter
The IETE students’ chapter of SSET is organizing a one day seminar entitled ‘Your profession from a global perspective, on March 29 at the campus. The resource person for this programme is Major G.K Nair, Chief Executive of Coast to Coast.
An internet based seminar a.k.a “Webinar” on agile computing was conducted on March 26 under the aegis of Infosys Technologies.
