Federation executive committee meeting

Dr.G.P.C.Nayar, Chairman, SCMS Group speaking at the executive committee meeting of Federation of Association of Managements of Unaided Professional Educational Institutions in India held at Bhubaneswar on February 3. The meeting resolved to—
Dr. Nayar is the founder president of three associations of managements of professional educational institutions in Kerala, namely, Association of Self-financing Management Institutions in Kerala, Kerala Self-financing Engineering College Managements Association, and Association of Self-financing Technology (MCA) Institutions of Kerala.

Shri A.Gopalakrishnan, Chartered Accountant addressed the students on ‘Corporate governance – a spirituality approach,’ on February 1.

Shri Prince George, Chairman, Investment Financial Services – Select Group addressed the students on ‘Best methods of investment,’on February 8.

Shri M.N.Prabhakaran, Deputy Transport Commissioner (Retd.) addressed the students on, ‘Best practices in road traffic to avoid accidents,’ on February 22.

Management quiz competition

SCMS-COCHIN will host a state level management quiz competition for the Ghanshyam Binani Ever-rolling Trophy, in association with National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Kerala Chapter, on March 8. The participants will be students from B.Schools in Kerala.

Chaired the Science Congress session
Prof.V.Rajagopal chaired the technical session on the topic ‘IT and computer sciences’ in the four-day 20th Kerala Science Congress held at Thiruvananthapuram from January 28 to 31. The programme was organized jointly by University of Kerala and National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), Thiruvananthapuram in association with Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Presided over Inaugural session
Prof.G.R.C.Nair presided over the inaugural and valedictory sessions of the two-day National Seminar on ‘Environment management in infrastructure projects and chemical industries’ organized by Institution of Engineers (India), Cochin Centre at Ernakulam on February 22 and 23. Prof.Nair is the Chairman of IEI – Cochin Centre.

Paper presented
Dr.V.Raman Nair, Additional Director presented a paper on ‘Technology for service quality enhancement’ at the International Conference on Process and Technology: Key drivers of customer-focused service management, organized at TAPMI, Manipal on February 15 and 16. Foreign delegates including Prof. Christopher Lovelock, visiting professor at IMD, Switzerland participated in the conference.

Paper presented online

Prof.Filomina P.George, Dean (AA) participated and presented a paper on ‘Corporate social responsibility - A strategic imperative for sustainable growth’ at the first International Online Conference on Business and Management organized by ALA Excellence Consulting Group, Iran on November 21, 2007. There were 50 papers presented from all over the world, among which three were from India.

The above paper presented online by Prof.Filomina P.George, Dean (AA) was published in the international journal Lex et Scientia Volume XIV 2007.
An article titled ‘Quality management principles for small and medium enterprises’ by Shri Harish B.,Asst. Professor has been featured in ICFAI’s professional reference book, SMEs - Key Drivers for Growth.

Personality development programme
PerFact Evolve, Bangalore, is conducting a training programme for the PGDM and MBA students in professional etiquettes. The programme began on February 12 and will continue till the first week of March.

Best management team

SCMS-COCHIN team bagged the Best Management Team title
at the management fest, Masterpiece 08, organized by CMS Institute of Management Studies, Coimbatore on February 8 and 9. They had also won third position in Business quiz.The winning members were:

First in Street smart
SCMS-COCHIN team participated in the management meet, ‘Excel 2K8,’ organized by Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara from January 31 to February 2 and bagged first prize in the event Street smart. Christy Thomas, Sherly Sara Avarachan and Sagar Kumar Swain were the members of the winning team.

Deepu Joseph of PGDM batch 16 became the best manager at the management meet, Manaquest 08, organized by Institute of Technology and Management, Chennai on February 5 and 6.
