National Service Scheme (Technical)

The NSS (Technical) unit of SSET is organizing a blood donation drive in collaboration with IMA Blood Bank and Research Centre, Thrissur, on March 7. SSET was adjudged as the best donor for a similar drive conducted last year.

Papers published
Shri.Venu P., Asst. Professor (Mechanical), published a paper ‘Fuzzy quality function deployment with distributed computing’, at the international conference on materials for the future, held at GEC, Thrissur, during January 17,18 and 19.

Dr.E.M.S.Nair, Professor(ME) co-authored a paper ‘Fatigue testing of ship structural plates’ at the international conference on materials for the future, held at GEC, Thrissur during January 17 to 19.

ISO certification

An awareness programme on ISO certification procedures and documentation was organized on February 16 for the benefit of new faculty members.

Placement activities

The placement cell had a hectic schedule in connection with selection and recruitment of 2009 Batch students. Many IT-based multinational and national companies were vying to grab the first slot at SSET in the placement programme for the current placement session. Software conglomerates like Keane (formerly Carritor), Infosys, Sathyam Computers, UST Global, IBS and L&T Infotech have already conducted recruitment drives for 2009 Batch and around 150 students have already been placed by now.

IVRCL and Structures Online have selected civil engineers of 2008 Batch.

Shriram Group and HCL Infosystems will be visiting the campus to select candidates of 2008 Batch, all branches.

Wrench Solutions is visiting the campus to select students of 2008 Batch Civil, Mechanical and Automobile branches. Velozeta is coming to grab candidates of Mechanical and Automobile branches.

Shri.Niju Joseph, Sr. Lecturer (MCA) and Smt.Diana P.G.Pearcy, Lecturer (CSE) are attending a two-week Faculty Enablement Programme as part of campus connect programme organized by Infosys at their Chennai campus.

Infrastructure

The new automobile workshop has started functioning at SSET. The workshop incorporates state-of-the-art equipments like line-boring machine, re-sleeving press and wheel balancing rig. Our automobile students can now get exposure to the most modern machinery.

Students’ achievements

Final year Computer Science & Engineering students participated in iTalent 2007, a concept presentation contest organized at Tidel Park, Chennai on February 7, 8 and 9. The programme was conducted by Confederation of Indian Industry, Southern Region, and the main sponsors were Tata Consultancy Services, Alcatel and Lucent Technologies. Three teams from SSET got qualified for the final round and had won a cash prize of Rs.3000 per team, from a total of 153 teams. The SSETians were :
