IETE-SSET Students’ Forum

SSET Students Forum of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) was inaugurated by Smt.Jyothi Rama Swamy, TCS on November 23, at a gala function, presided over by Prof.M.Madhavan, Principal. Wing Cdr. N.J. Pillai, Chairman, IETE, Cochin Centre and Prof. R. Sahadevan, Head of Dept., EC offered the felicitations. Shri.Sabu G.Panicker, Asst. Professor, EC and Staff-in-Charge of the Forum also spoke.

Career guidance programme

A career guidance programme was organized under the auspices of IETE-SSET Students’ Forum on December 1. Dr. A.Unnikrishnan, Addl. Director, NPOL, Kochi addressed the gathering on career opportunities at the establishments under Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Sapience 2007

Senior faculty members from SSET attended the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) State convention on ‘Excellence in technical education through innovations’, held on November 24 at Government Engineering College, Thrissur. Prof. M.Madhavan, Principal was the moderator for one of the technical sessions.

Publications

An article on ‘Strategic planning for institutional development’ by Prof. M. Madhavan was published in the Journal of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, Palai.

Placement News

Prof. R Sahadevan, Professor-in-Charge of Placement attended a one-day UST Global All Kerala Placement Coordinators’ Meet at Cochin on November 20.

KG Information Systems, one of the premier IT and BPO Services providers in India conducted campus recruitment programme at SSET and selected 22 students of 2008 batch.

Infosys Technologies is scheduled to visit the campus on February 11 for cluster recruitment of 2009 batch.

Satyam Computers has selected 14 students of 2008 batch and Kalki Communications has selected one student for placement.

Placement drives from various companies for 2008 and 2007 batches are in progress.

Prof.R.Sahadevan, Professor in charge of Placement and Prof.P.Raghudasan, HOD-Computer Science and Engineering participated in the video conference, webinar conducted by Infosys on November 28 as a feedback programme for the campus connect conducted on December 4 at Trivandrum.

L&T Infotech organized a recruitment programme for 2008 batch students and short listed 5 students.
Keane is expected to visit SSET during January 2008 for recruiting candidates from 2009 batch.
IURCL is slated to visit SSET during January 2008, for selecting candidates of Civil Engineering branch 2008 Batch.

Augmentation of infrastructure

The following items were newly procured to be installed in the automobile workshop :
(1) Tyre changer (2) Diesel smoke meter (3) Exhaust gas analyzer (4) Vertical fine boring machine (5) Hydraulic Re-sleeving press (6) Valve seat cutting machine and (7) Gas welding set.

STADD (5 user version) and CAD (5 user version) softwares have been installed in AutoCAD Lab. Data entry for the campus automation software is in progress.
