Industry Institution Interaction

Shri J.Chacko, General Manager (Rtd.), Oriental Insurance Company interacted with the students on ‘Opportunities in the Insurance sector,’ on October 26.
Mr.Jean-Luc Breant, Professor of Art from France spoke to the students on ‘Communicating through art,’ on October 31.
Shri M.S.Rajan, Dy.Editor, New Indian Express, Cochin spoke to the students on ‘Newspaper industry,’ on November 2.
Shri Ninan Thariyan, General Manager and Response Head, Times of India Group addressed the students on ‘Branding in Newspaper industry,’ on November 7.
Shri C.M.Mahesh Kumar, Sr. Executive, National Stock Exchange made a presentation to the students on October 13, on the topic, ‘Evolution of Indian capital market.’

Paper published
An article by Dr.C.R.S.Pillai, Associate Professor, titled ‘Accounting and financial reporting theories and methodologies’has been published in The Accounting World, an Icfai University publication, December 2007 issue

Personality development programmes

Shri Naresh Shah, Corporate Trainer from Mumbai and Shri P.R.Chandramohan from Cochin conducted a one-week personality development programme for the PGDM - Banking and Retailing - students and MCA batch 4 students, starting from October 29. The areas they covered include vision and values, emotional intelligence, study habits, human relations, public speaking and group behavior.
Mr.Christopher Petryk, International Trainer from Brest, France conducted a personality development programme for PGDM batch 15 students during the period from October 22 to November 17.
He covered areas like Leadership, Performance motivation, Cross-cultural communication and Interview techniques.

SCMS emerges as champions

SCMS-COCHIN team consisting of 15 PGDM batch 16 students emerged as overall champions at the management fest – Decreto ’07 – organized by Department of Management Studies, Lourdes Matha College of Science and Technology, Trivandrum during October 26-28.

SCMS-COCHIN team had lifted the trophy by being first in two events - Ad zap and Case analysis - and becoming second in another two events - Best management team and Ice breaking. The prestigious individual event award viz. Best Manager, was won by Suman Kumar Saha. Other winners are:
Ad zap: Naveen Chandra, Sumit Topre, Rakhi K.L. and Sreeja Sreekantan - First
Case analysis: Kiran S.S. and Firoz Khan - First
Best management team: Jetson V.Daniel, Satheesh D., Saumya Kuriakose and Zareena Salim - Second
Ice breaking: Whole team - Second
A total of 10 teams took part in the meet.

SCMS team declared runner-up

SCMS-COCHIN bagged overall runner-up trophy at the annual talent contest, ASCEND 07, conducted by Department of Management Studies, University of Calicut during November 16 and 17. The winners were:
Brand wars: Ashwin Kumar, K.Palaniappan, Anmithra Basu and Samuel John - First
Systems game: Hariprasad and Dhoniya P. – Second
In all,12 teams participated in the competitions.

Two prizes at Inflore ‘07

SCMS-COCHIN team claimed two prizes at the management fest – Inflore ’07 – organized by Rajagiri School of Management, Cochin from October 21 & 22. The winning members are:
System game: Shirley Avarachan and Kalpana - Third prize
Best business plan: Saurav Dev and Rajesh - Third prize

Event Management

PGD PR&A students of SCMS were engaged for conducting the Inside Outside Mega Show organized by Business India Group at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium grounds, Cochin from October 25 to 28. The organizers were all praise for the way they conducted the event.
